To Our Patients,

We understand and deeply respect that you may be concerned about coronavirus in public places, even at our state-of-the-art sterilized office.

Our first priority is always the health and well-being of our patients. And that is a priority we take extremely seriously, even with the current disruptions we’re all experiencing.

It has been a very difficult decision, but we have decided that it is in the best interest of our community, our team, and our patients that we not see regular patients until at least Monday, April 6, 2020.

If you do have a dental emergency, we are here and will be here and happy to help you. Please call us at 603-546-7460.

This is just one more way that we can show our high level of care for you … and for everyone in our community. We very much look forward to seeing you, your family, and your friends very soon.

As always, if you have any questions, please call our office at 603-546-7460.

Sincerely,
Dr. James Kiehl

Help Your Child Stay Calm During A Dental Emergency

March 21, 2018
Dental Emergency in Nashua, NH | Nashua Family Dentistry

As a parent or guardian, you do everything that you possibly can to keep your children safe from harm, but you still know that you can’t anticipate every problem. For professional advice on how to handle an unexpected dental emergency that your child is experiencing, call Nashua Family Dentistry at 603-546-7460 and book a visit with our caring team of dental professionals.

At our Nashua, NH dentist office, we treat patients of all ages to a wide range of high-quality and compassionate dental care. Our goal is to provide comprehensive treatment options for the vast majority of all dental needs under one roof so you won’t have to bounce between various specialists to attain the procedures you and your loved ones need.

If your child’s dental injury is causing their mouth to bleed, stop the blood flow as soon as possible by applying gentle pressure with gauze or a cotton ball. If you’re unable to stop the bleeding, take them to your local emergency room as soon as possible. Once their injury is stabilized, you can follow-up with us for restorative dentistry or any other dental treatment required to make their smile as good as new.

We know that unexpected expenses can be extremely stressful – especially when you’re already facing a stressful emergency situation. But don’t let financial concerns stand between your child and the emergency care they require. To make covering the cost of your kid’s treatments more flexible, we accept a variety of payment options, including:

  • Cash
  • Checks
  • Major credit cards
  • A large variety of dental insurance plans
  • Third-party financing through Lending Club, CareCredit and Compassionate Finance

We’ll also do everything we can to provide a same-day appointment when your child or anyone else in your family is in need of emergency dentistry. If you call by noon, we’ll definitely be able to get your kiddo in for any necessary procedures.

Help Your Child Stay Calm

Maybe that game of two-hand touch the neighborhood kids were playing got a little too rowdy and your child wasn’t using a custom athletic mouthguard. Or perhaps your graceful gymnast had a clumsy moment. Or maybe your kiddo just tripped over a toy you’ve told them to put away over and over again. No matter the reason your child needs dental emergency care, we can help you.

But before that can happen, you need to get them to our Nashua, NH dentist office and you may also need to calm them down some before you can do that.

First thing’s first: you should try to stay calm yourself. We know this is easier said than done, but if you can keep cool under pressure, your child will definitely pick up on that and may even calm down some themselves. The opposite is also true – if you’re tense and nervous, your child will definitely notice. To help calm your nerves, try taking deep breaths and speaking calmly and deliberately.

You can also try distracting your child so they don’t fixate on the situation at hand. Maybe they have a favorite toy or a beloved song that you can play for them. You know your child better than anyone, so try to think of something they really love and distract them with it.

Because time is of the essence, you should also try to hurry, but without being frightening. If you have a dog, you know that they get anxious when you’re late and running around the house trying to find your keys. Obviously, your children are even more perceptive, so they’ll definitely realize it if you’re scared or on edge.

Keep These Dental Items Around For Emergencies

You keep a trusty first aid kit on hand for general injuries, and you should do the same for the sake of your family’s smiles. You can’t anticipate a dental injury, but you can keep some items on hand that will allow you to address the situation some before you travel to our Nashua, NH dentist office for professional help.

You can purchase an emergency kit specifically made for dental situations online or at certain pharmacies, but you can also supplement your first aid kit with various items for a more affordable option. Here are a few dental instruments and materials you should have on hand in case of an emergency:

  • Nitrile gloves so you can lower the chances of infection when you’re examining and addressing the problem
  • Gauze and cotton balls for stopping any blood flow as mentioned above and for applying various medicines
  • Saline solution so your little one can rinse out their mouth (warm water and salt will also work)
  • Over-the-counter pain relievers to decrease your child’s pain and reduce inflammation
  • Ice packs to help numb your child’s mouth and limit swelling
  • Benzocaine that you can apply directly to the area to numb it (as long as it is not open and bleeding and you follow the instructions)
  • A small, clean, sealable container so you can store any tooth fragments and fill it with saliva or milk to keep the pieces moist until you can visit our office

Visit Us For Friendly And Gentle Emergency Dental Care

If you bring your child or anyone else in your family to see us for emergency treatment, we will do everything we can to help them (and you) relax. Depending on the situation, we may be able to numb their mouth with an anesthetic first thing so they can get out of pain as soon as possible. We’ll stay calm and work quickly to fix the issue.

Our entire team is kid-friendly and considerate. We’ll do all we can to help your kiddo feel comfortable and see that we are trustworthy and gentle. We can also provide various comfort options to help distract and relax them, including:

  • Calming music
  • Cozy pillows
  • Warm blankets

We can also provide dental sedation to help relieve their dental anxiety and improve their overall comfort.

An amazing dentist, with a staff full of people who genuinely care about you. My most recent experience, I forgot to have a very important form filled out (requirement for those in the NG) and they went through HOOPS to get my form filled out and returned to me. I can’t recommend them enough!
