To Our Patients,

We understand and deeply respect that you may be concerned about coronavirus in public places, even at our state-of-the-art sterilized office.

Our first priority is always the health and well-being of our patients. And that is a priority we take extremely seriously, even with the current disruptions we’re all experiencing.

It has been a very difficult decision, but we have decided that it is in the best interest of our community, our team, and our patients that we not see regular patients until at least Monday, April 6, 2020.

If you do have a dental emergency, we are here and will be here and happy to help you. Please call us at 603-546-7460.

This is just one more way that we can show our high level of care for you … and for everyone in our community. We very much look forward to seeing you, your family, and your friends very soon.

As always, if you have any questions, please call our office at 603-546-7460.

Sincerely,
Dr. James Kiehl

The Pros And Cons Of Getting Dental Veneers

June 18, 2017

Your smile doesn’t look as good as it used to, does it? Stains and damage like chips or cracks take away from how your teeth look. Sadly, people can see that whenever you talk, laugh, or smile. And all those imperfections are only going to get worse in the future, not better.

Unless you call our Nashua, NH dental office today at 603-546-7460, that is. Our Nashua dentists can give you dental veneers that transform your dull, damaged smile into one that you’ll want to show everyone.

What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, shell-like covers. They are bonded to the front of your teeth. Since they are shaped and colored to look like healthy teeth, that means dental veneers instantly change your smile for the better.

But are dental veneers good for your teeth? For most people, dental veneers are an amazing piece of cosmetic dentistry that gives them a smile they love. Here are some pros and cons to getting dental veneers.

The Pros Of Dental Veneers

Dental veneers hide stains and imperfections.

Dental veneers are cosmetic dentistry, so they make your smile look better. Specifically, dental veneers will cover over several things:

  • Stains (including deep ones that teeth whitening cannot help with)
  • Chips
  • Cracks
  • Worn edges

As soon as our Nashua dentist expertly places them on the front of your teeth, all those problems are gone. Instead, all that people will see is healthy-looking, bright teeth.

Dental veneers do not require any special maintenance.

There are some dental treatments that need special care and maintenance over time to keep them working. For example, braces come with eating restrictions. That is not the case with dental veneers. They will not last forever (most need replacing after 10 years or longer), but they also do not require any extra care or maintenance. You can eat and drink like normal.

Dental veneers are stain-resistant.

Any dark foods or drinks that you enjoy will leave behind tiny stains on your enamel. That’s why your smile looks so dark and brownish these days. But dental veneers are much more resistant to these stains than your natural enamel. That means you can enjoy a bright, whiter smile longer.

Dental veneers can cover small gaps between your teeth.

Because your teeth never really stop moving, you can have small gaps between your teeth even if you had braces when you were a child. Even though these gaps are small, they really stand out when you smile. That darkness contrasts too much with your teeth.

Our Nashua dentists can make your dental veneers big enough to cover those gaps between your teeth. That’s why veneers have the nickname “instant orthodontics.” By hiding those spaces, it looks like you just had orthodontics again.

The Cons Of Dental Veneers

Dental veneers typically stay the same color over time.

Because dental veneers are more resistant to stains than enamel, they won’t change their color as fast. If some of the teeth that people see when you smile don’t get dental veneers, they can soon stand out compared to the ones with veneers.

Dental veneers are not reversible.

Because your teeth have to be prepared for dental veneers, this cosmetic dentistry treatment is not reversible. In other words, you cannot get dental veneers and then, 10 years later, decide you want to get something different.

Teeth grinding can lead to damaged veneers or ones that fall off.

People who grind their teeth often can put extra stress on dental veneers that they’re not designed to handle. That means you can either damage your veneers or even make one fall off. It can be replaced, but it can happen again if you continue grinding your teeth.

Who Should Get Dental Veneers?

If you have a history of tooth sensitivity (when hot or cold foods and drinks can cause discomfort), your enamel is naturally very thin, or you chew tobacco regularly, then dental veneers are probably not a great choice. That’s also true if you’re hoping to get just 1-2 dental veneers, but that might be possible when done with teeth whitening.

For everyone else, dental veneers is an amazing cosmetic dentistry treatment.

Call Nashua Family Dentistry today at 603-546-7460 or use our convenient online form to schedule your appointment for dental veneers. Our Nashua dentists will thoroughly explain this cosmetic dentistry treatment and how your smile can benefit from it.

An amazing dentist, with a staff full of people who genuinely care about you. My most recent experience, I forgot to have a very important form filled out (requirement for those in the NG) and they went through HOOPS to get my form filled out and returned to me. I can’t recommend them enough!
