To Our Patients,

We understand and deeply respect that you may be concerned about coronavirus in public places, even at our state-of-the-art sterilized office.

Our first priority is always the health and well-being of our patients. And that is a priority we take extremely seriously, even with the current disruptions we’re all experiencing.

It has been a very difficult decision, but we have decided that it is in the best interest of our community, our team, and our patients that we not see regular patients until at least Monday, April 6, 2020.

If you do have a dental emergency, we are here and will be here and happy to help you. Please call us at 603-546-7460.

This is just one more way that we can show our high level of care for you … and for everyone in our community. We very much look forward to seeing you, your family, and your friends very soon.

As always, if you have any questions, please call our office at 603-546-7460.

Sincerely,
Dr. James Kiehl

What To Do If You Knock Out A Tooth

December 22, 2017
Sedation Dentistry Options | Nashua Family Dentistry

If you have knocked out a tooth or are experiencing some other form of dental emergency, give the team at Nashua Family Dentistry a call at 603-546-7460 and head to our Nashua, NH dentist office as soon as possible! The sooner you arrive, the better the chances will be that we are able to re-insert your tooth and get it back to normal again.

When patients require emergency dentistry, we do everything that we possibly can to provide a same-day appointment. This allows us to get you out of pain quickly but also makes it more likely that we’ll be able to fix your problem in the simplest and most conservative way possible.

Of course, you never know when an emergency – dental or otherwise – is going to occur. But with our help, you can do your part to be prepared for the unexpected. If you act quickly and responsibly, you’ll be able to preserve your tooth after it has been knocked out so we’ll have a better shot at restoring your smile with your natural tooth.

Because we understand that when you need emergency dentistry, you need it right now – regardless of what your bank account looks like – we accept a variety of payment options. We even take third-party financing through Lending Club, Compassionate Finance, and CareCredit.

Learn How To Handle A Knocked Out Tooth Dental Emergency

Whether you’re an athlete that frequently forgets to wear your custom athletic mouthguard or you just happened to suffer a dental injury in a freak accident, we can help you if and when you knock out a tooth. But one of the best things you can do is be ready for this situation on your own so you can handle it appropriately before you visit us for emergency dentistry.

If you have a dental issue that is causing you to bleed, the first thing you should do is try to stop the bleeding. Apply gentle pressure with a piece of gauze or a cotton ball. This will help to stop the flow and also absorb some of the blood so you can better assess the situation. If you are unable to stop the blood flow, visit your local emergency room as soon as possible.

If and when you do knock out a tooth, visit us as soon as possible for professional help and restorative dentistry options. Typically, if you can get to our office within a half hour, we will have a very good chance of replacing your tooth.

When a tooth is knocked out, you should only handle it by the crown of the tooth (the portion that is normally visible above the gumline. Do NOT touch the tooth roots if at all possible because this could spread bad bacteria. If the tooth is dirty, rinse it with some water. Then, try to place the tooth back into its socket if you are able to.

If you cannot put the tooth back in place, keep the tooth moist and safe by storing it in a small container filled with either milk or saliva and seal the container. This will help to keep the tooth alive until you can visit our Nashua, NH dentist office.

In case you are feeling pain, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever and/or apply some benzocaine to the affected area to numb it. If the OTC pain reliever includes an anti-inflammatory of some sort, this will also help minimize the pain that you could potentially be feeling the next day as well.

To help clean out your mouth some, you should also lightly swish and rinse with a saline solution. If you don’t have a packaged version of saline, you can prepare your own easily and quickly by adding some salt to warm water.

If the side of your face where the tooth got knocked out starts to swell, you can also apply a cold compress to the area. This will reduce the swelling and may help in numbing any pain you are feeling as well.

When you arrive to get emergency dental care from us, we will do everything we can to make you comfortable. We even have a few amenities to help, such as:

  • Cozy blankets
  • Soft pillows
  • Calming music to help relax you
  • Dental sedation to help relieve dental anxiety

If you have a dental emergency, do your best to follow the steps below and visit Nashua Family Dentistry as soon as possible. If you can, call ahead at 603-546-7460. In non-emergencies, you can book using our handy online form.

An amazing dentist, with a staff full of people who genuinely care about you. My most recent experience, I forgot to have a very important form filled out (requirement for those in the NG) and they went through HOOPS to get my form filled out and returned to me. I can’t recommend them enough!
