Well, I think it really starts with the environment, as we talked about a little bit before. Just getting the patients in quickly, efficiently, with the staff who understands why they're there, what their concerns are. For some of our patients, we do use some oral sedation medicine, which they just get at their pharmacy and take it before they come in. But I think the bottom line is that if a patient's having pain when they're here, there's usually a good reason for that, and we have to get to the bottom of what that is. If the local anesthetic is not working, usually there's a good reason for that. Again, we've got to figure out what that is, not just, "Hold on, it'll be another minute or so." That doesn't work well for patients.
I think even one of those experiences makes people very anxious, probably for a long time. So what we try to do is minimize that. One of the things that we do for any patient we give local anesthetic to, is we actually test the tooth with a little cold before we start working on it. So the last thing we want is for the patient to feel that, or worse yet, start to feel it while we're working on the tooth. So that test allows us to do that in such a way that if they are feeling it, we can just administer a little bit more, reinforce it, and typically they're good to go after that.
